The mission of Dancing Classroomsis to cultivate essential life skills in children through the practice of social dance. Our 4th and 5th graders receive 20 lessons of traditional ballroom dances in a learning environment that fosters respect, teamwork, confidence, and politeness.
An experienced teaching artist collaborates with our classroom teachers to relate the dances with their regular curriculum of ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies. The children not only learn dance steps, they learn the history and culture surrounding each dance. At the end of these lessons, they emerge as “ladies and gentlemen” with a renewed sense of joy, accomplishment, and elegance. The end of year presentation is a highlight of the school year.
“During ballroom dancing, of course, we dance. But there’s much more to fancy footwork and smiling. We show teammates respect, kindness, and elegance. We incorporate this into our daily lives in many ways.” Adrian, Grade 5
