Bakers and Shakers is an enhanced curriculum where the students engage in interactive ways of cooking that reinforce literacy, science, and math skills. The process of cooking, baking, and preparing food is essentially an applied science. The students learn new skills in measuring, cooking chemistry, and exploring as they create foods from scratch. Students who participate in this program work in teams; this improves their sharing and socialization skills and as a team they discuss how to develop healthy eating habits. They learn to read the nutritional values of what they eat, as well as knowing what to look for in a food label - a future skill they will utilize for years to come.
